Basically a caricature is what you get when you play with proportions. It’s a graphic joke and could be an amusing present.

Please remember watching others is a great way to learn techniques. Some artists draw caricatures from photos, others prefer to draw caricatures from mind. Whatever way you choose you should pay great attention to details. The first thing you should do is to study the facial characteristics of the person you want to draw. Then you should find the prominent features of his/her face to exaggerate in the caricature. And the most important, the person you draw should be still recognizable in the caricature.
